CATUABA Erythroxylum catuaba NEW!! The bark of this wild relative of the Coca plant (Erythroxylum coca ) is known amongst some Amazonian herbalists as the supreme aphrodisiac for men and women, and has been highly regarded for many generations. It is a mild CNS stimulant that is used to balance and tonify the nervous system. It is used in folk remedies to increase libido, for impotence, as a cardiotonic, to sharpen memory, and for all manner of nervous conditions including anxiety, insomnia, exhaustion and nerve pain. Clinical studies have revealed Catuaba’s antibacterial and antiviral properties, showing it to be effective against E. coli and most significantly to inhibit the absorption HIV into cells. Unlike its sister, Catuaba does not contain cocaine, but a host of interesting alkaloids, sterols, terpenes, lignans, and flavonoids. Catuaba is often taken alone or with Muira Puama, traditionally infused overnight in cold water, steeped as a tea or decocted for greater potency, 1/2–1 Tablespoon per dose. Its mild bitter flavor also makes an excellent cordial and holds potential as an herbal beer. It can be taken daily for its tonic action, the only known side effects being erotic dreams and feelings! We find it produces a gentle stimulation with a magnification of consciousness and tactile awareness, especially for men. Confusion exists regarding the actual species of plant known as Catuaba, with at least 4 unrelated botanicals being marketed as such. We offer what is considered the true Catuaba, sustainably harvested in Brazil.
