This Andean herb is considered a powerful detoxifier and is widely used in Peruvian ethnomedicine. It is traditionally taken for short periods throughout the year to cleanse the blood and body of environmental toxins. A strong diuretic, it is said to tonify urinary and digestive tracts, reduce inflammation, improve kidney function, and help alleviate allergies. It is a mild calming sedative used to treat tension, anxiety, and remedy headaches. 1 teaspoon per cup of tea, drunk daily for10–15 days.
