MACA ROOT Lepidium meyenii, Lepidium peruvianum "Chacon"
An ancient Andean food/medicine plant cultivated for at least 4,000 years. This turnip like root is the highest altitude cultivar in the world, grown at elevations over 14,000 feet. A revered adaptogen and aphrodisiac. Clinical research demonstrates it to be a powerful fertility enhancer for both men and women. One study showed a nearly 200% libido increase in men! Becoming popular among elderly couples, some claiming it to be natures answer to Viagra™. Provides sustained physical energy, mental acuity, and enhances the function of the immune system. Nourishes the endocrine system and is proving to be quite beneficial for problems associated with PMS and menopause. Also being hailed as a supreme longevity herb and treatment for the biochemical imbalances that contribute to depression. Maca is quite high in protein, abundant in vitamins, minerals (especially calcium), amino acids, sterols, flavanols, and alkamides. Like most adaptogens, the effects are most noted with regular consistent use, 1 - 4 tablespoons a day. With a pleasant malty taste, it mixes well with any food or drink. Numerous traditional Andean delicacies are made from the root, such as puddings, stews, and ferments—including a Maca beer, "chicha de Maca." 20% Maca can be added to flour when making breads or other baked goods. Many find it a real treat blended with Cacao. Unlike other Maca powder on the market, ours is from a mixed variety of organically grown roots, sundried and slow ground at low temperatures. No coloring agents, glucose or or other sweeteners have been added. To avoid soil depletion and heavy metal accumulation that Maca is known for, these roots are cultivated in new fields each year on a 7 year rotation.
