CLAVOHUASCA Tynanthus panurensis "Clove Vine" This exotic aphrodisiac is a highly regarded, and until recently, well kept secret amongst folks in the Amazon. This rare vine is in the same family as the "mother of all medicines", ayahuasca. It bears the enchanting aroma and flavor of cloves. Clavohuasca is often mentioned primarily as a woman’s aphrodisiac, but in fact both men and women greatly enjoy its effects on sexual potency and it is widely used in Peru and Brazil to treat frigidity and to support healthy erections. The vine has analgesic properties and is traditionally utilized to treat rheumatic pains. It is also an excellent digestive aid and it is sometimes an admixture to ayahuasca brews to help mitigate the purgative effects. We have also heard reports of its utilization treating thyroid imbalances. Very little research has been done on its constituents, an alkaloid has been reported and the substance eugenol is responsible for the clove-like aroma, it may contain other intriguing unexplored compounds. The most common aphrodisiacal preparation in South America is made by macerating the vine bark in cane alcohol. Many also find it to make an enticing cordial after soaking in brandy for several weeks. It can be made into tea, about 1–2 teaspoons per cup, or mixed with hot chocolate. Our Clavohuasca is sustainably wildcrafted in northeastern Peru.
